It’s tough to find a job, or if you have one, the money just doesn’t go as
far as it used too.  Even the millionaires try to get more money.  I
am going to present you with 3 ideas I have used to make some money.

1. Ebay: I know you have heard this one a bunch of times.  I do make some
   money by selling stuff I don’t need anymore.  I sell books,
   inexpensive art stuff and things I will not use.  The field is
   open.  At the present time, it does not cost to list unless you
   get the extras they offer.  They just take a cut when something
   sells.  No upfront fees is nice.

2. Amazon: I sell books on Amazon.  I had some of my own books that I was
   through with.  I also went to garage sales and picked up boxes of
   books for next to nothing.  You do have to be careful about
   shipping. There are set shipping costs.  You will loose money if
   you ship something like “War and Peace”.  I get orders on
   books that were put on their list almost a year ago.

3. You can make some good money by subbing on a newspaper route.  Most

A job is something you do to earn a living. A home business can be a job or be something you love to do. If you were a fisherman, would you consider going fishing a job? How about golf for a golfer?

If you were a fisherman and you disliked golf then being a caddy could be classified as a bad job.

Not all jobs are bad. Being a research scientist and loving to do research is great. You get a lot of satisfaction with new discoveries. You are however working for someone else and they call the shots. How about if you were doing the research on a contract or consultant basis? Other than having to follow procedures, you call the shots. You do not have to put up with company policies, etc.

Trading a 9 to 5 job for a 7 to 9 job is not good. Being careful and by choosing something you love to do takes the bite out of longer hours. Taking on longer hours in something you don’t like doing is like jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

In my forty plus years at jobs I only had one that was truly satisfying. I was the manager of the small engine sales and repair side of a shop that also did bike sales and service. The owner of the shop trusted me enough to have full reigns over my side. The store opened at 8 A. M.. The next thing I noticed it was 2 P. M. and it was past lunch time so I better eat. Next thing I new it was 6 P. M and time to close. Almost every day was like this, very satisfying.

As great as that job was, it was still a job. I moved to a new location and started my own small engine shop. Eventually I sold that shop and moved again. Being the owner of a business can be tiresome, but oh so satisfying.

If you have goals, you may have gone through a similar exercise, if not let’s explore.   I want you to take out a clean piece of paper.  By the way, this is for your information only.  You will need to look deep inside yourself.  First thing is to draw two lines.  In the middle of the page vertically draw a line, in the page horizontally draw a line.  You should have a page with four boxes or squares.

At the top of each box put a phrase:  first box:  What do I think I do Well?  Then number down in that box 1 thru 7.   In box two put:  What Do Other People Think I Do Well?  Again numbers 1 Thru 7,  In Box Three Write:  If I Only Had Five Years To Live, What Would I have To Do To Make My Life Complete. Again Number 1 Thru 7,  In Box Four Write:  The Things That Would Make You Feel Really Good To Do?    i.e. fishing, inventing, making things from wood.

Now look at all the things listed and see if you can link something from each box together i.e.   I Think I Cook Well, People Tell Me I Cook Well,  If I Only Had A Limited Time I Would Want To Have A Restaurant, I Love To Cook, It’s A Passion With Me.  If possible go through th excerise again and see if  you can link other sub list together.

On examine the top choice!  Are there other people making money at what you chose?  If others are making money at it, there is no reason that you can’t make money at it too!  It may take some extra training.  It’s never to late to start.  Wouldn’t it be a shame to go through life wanting to do something and never doing it?  You  would always have that empty feeling.  A true story:  Husband and wife were talking: the wife said since I was a little girl I have always wanted to be a doctor.  The husband answered, so be one.  The wife came back, I am 54 do you know how I would be in 7 years when I got to practice.  The husband came back: How old will you be in 7 years if you don’t do it?  It ended up her saying that those 7 years were the most satisfying part of her life.

Dreams and wishes become reality only when you act on them.  Even if today you are just making ends meet, start working for what will make you happy.  Don’t go to your grave wishing you had done something else in life!

1. 1. 1. Ho Hum Attitude: Go for it all the way, or decide not to go for it at all, but don’t go at it half a—ed. You can ask almost anyone and they will say they want their food hot or cold not luke warm. Success in business is the same. Be committed to your business idea with all your heart and soul. Do your homework! Your success is almost guaranteed!

      2. Research: Don’t try to sell a parka to a surfer in Miami in July! You may have a great idea, but if no one wants it, it’s just a great idea. Selling parkas in Minneapolis in December could be a great idea! Search out your customers and give them what they want!

      3. Poor customer service: I had a partner once that when there were 5 customers in the store he wanted to shut the doors so no one else could come in. If you acknowledge customers, they will wait. In a restaurant, a customer wanted an extra pickle slice with his meal. The wait person said there would be an extra charge. When the owner heard that he flipped. Just give him the pickle!!! He explained the pickle cost 10 cents, the bad feelings would cost thousands, JUST GIVE THEM THE PICKLE!

      4. Poor management and record keeping: You have to know where you are at all times. You have to wear 13 hats as a business owner. Juggling becomes an art. You have to buy smart. Be a sharp, understanding manager and a customer rep, all at the same time. You can delegate hats to others as you gain trust in them.

      5. Love what you are doing: If you hate being a business owner, you might as well have stayed working for someone else! Go into a business that is challenging and rewarding. Feel that the business was a baby that you have brought up! There will be diapers to change, but the whole experience is so very rewarding!
